About

My name’s Kaytee DeWolfe. I’m a Texan-Brummie and mother to Polly.
I write and sing for The Dark Retreat: http://thedarkretreat.bandcamp.com
I paint and draw under the moniker Wolfemutha: http://www.facebook.com/wolfemuthaart
I love music. I’m opinionated. I’m short on time.

Let me briefly explain my “On This Day” posts, which I will try my best to keep up.
Basically, my dad has committed himself to a project whereby he is listening to music past and present by release date. This project will span 10 years whilst he learns all there is to know about contemporary music. I’m trying to loosely follow this by printing a Wiki list of releases by month and ticking them off the list using Spotify and YouTube whilst at work in the office (with my partner-in-crime work colleague). I can’t guarantee I’m going to get around to listening to them all, either due to time constraints or lack of interest (let’s face it,  there’s a lot of crap out there) but I’m having a go. We’ve been listening to albums released “On This Day” since last year but I’ve only just started documenting them in realisation that memory is not one of my stronger points. I’m hoping some of it will stick though for future music quizzes. Understandably, these reviews will have to be brief with good reason! TOO MANY TO GET THROUGH!!!

Also, if you wish to read my dad’s blog, which is not limited to his musical education, follow this link: http://petegooch.blogspot.co.uk

Just listened to you on Soundcloud. You make really cool music! I particularly like the haunting sound of Sophie. What is it about though? My speakers are really bad and I can’t hear the words 😦

Ah gee, thank you ever so! Thank you for taking the time to listen and thank you for coming back here and telling me!
It really means a lot to me as it doesn’t get THAT much exposure. Sophie is about Sophie Lancaster, a girl who was brutally beaten to death for being a “Goth”.
I’ve posted a link to her foundation on the lyrics page if you wanted to look into it a bit more.
Here’s a link to a news story about her as well:

Not the happiest story but it really affected my fella at the time and has stuck with him. “Falling From Grace” was written under the working title of “Sophie” but I couldn’t get the lyrics to flow. It eventually ended up being a bizarre take on Lucifer’s love for God.
My “Sophie” came along a lot later and then all at once, recorded in an afternoon.
Thanks again for listening and getting back in touch with me. You rock. x

Oh, I remember reading about that now. It was awful 😦 I’m thinking about putting a link to it on my blog as a post now that I know. I wondered if there was any message or link that I could put up along with it, anything that you knew of that would be helpful?

Only this one for the Foundation set up in her name: http://www.sophielancasterfoundation.com/
Please send me a link to your blog if you do post about her to keep in this thread (and so I can read it!).
Link to the song “Sophie” (for anyone else potentially reading) is http://thedarkretreat.bandcamp.com/track/sophie .
Enjoy the last 30 mins of bank holiday weekend…. 🙂
